You must know that The House of Hades is the fourth book in The Heroes of Olympus that spun off from the uber-popular Percy Jackson series about teen demigods (who have one Greek-or Roman- god parent) on quests to save humanity from ancient monster still at large in the world. Rick Riordan combines plenty of action and danger (usually not glory but sometimes scary) mixed with lots of humor and learning. This book takes two of the main demigods (Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase) straight into Tartarus (Papa monsters), so expect the scary imagery to me amped up (though most kids don't secretly fear falling into Mithological underworld, so that helps). Riordan also introduces his first gay teen character (Nico di Angelo, The Son of Hades), who gets outed by Cupid himself.
I really like this book. Especially when Riordan introduces Nico di Angelo as his gay character. I very surprised. And read this book makes me want to read the next book, The Blood of Olympus. Hope it'll be soon.
